Our Approach to Responsible Gambling
9kelap genuinely believes that the best gaming experience is one built on informed choices and personal control. We serve players from across Malaysia — from Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya to Johor Bahru, Penang, and Shah Alam — and we understand that different players have different relationships with gaming. Our responsibility is to ensure that every single one of them has access to the tools they need to stay in control.
Gambling, when approached with a clear head and sensible limits, is a form of entertainment no different from watching a live football match or enjoying a night out. The problem arises when the entertainment aspect gets lost — when the chase for losses takes over, when gambling starts affecting relationships, finances, or mental health. At that point, gambling is no longer enjoyable, and it is at that precise moment that 9kelap's responsible gambling framework is designed to step in.
This page walks you through every tool available to you as a 9kelap Member. It also explains the warning signs to be aware of, the steps to take if you are concerned, and the external organisations that can provide confidential support. None of these tools require justification — you can activate any of them at any time, for any reason.
Problem gambling can develop gradually and it does not always look the same for everyone. These are some of the most common indicators that gambling may have shifted from entertainment into something more serious:
- Spending increasing amounts of time or money on gambling to get the same level of excitement
- Feeling restless, irritable, or withdrawn when not gambling or trying to reduce gambling
- Repeated unsuccessful attempts to control, cut back, or stop gambling entirely
- Preoccupation with gambling — constantly thinking about past sessions or planning the next one
- Gambling when feeling distressed, anxious, guilty, or depressed as a coping mechanism
- Chasing losses — returning to gamble in an attempt to recover money that has already been lost
- Lying to family, friends, or employers about the extent of gambling activity
- Jeopardising or losing significant relationships, employment, or financial stability due to gambling
- Relying on others to provide financial relief caused by gambling losses
- Using money set aside for essential expenses (rent, bills, food) to fund gambling sessions
Tools Available to You at 9kelap
Every one of these tools is available to all Members at no charge. Contact our support team at any time to activate any of them.
Set a maximum daily, weekly, or monthly deposit limit on your account. Once set, limits take effect immediately. Increases to a deposit limit require a24-hour cooling-off period before they become active — deliberate safeguard against impulsive decisions. Reductions apply instantly.
Set a maximum session duration for your gaming activity. When your limit is reached, you will receive an alert and the option to log out. You can also configure session reminders that notify you at set intervals — for example, every 30 minutes — to help maintain awareness of how long you have been playing.
Request a temporary break from gambling — available in 24-hour, 7-day, 30-day, or custom duration periods. During a cooling-off period, your account will remain accessible for reviewing your history, but all real-money play and deposits will be suspended until the period ends.
Request a voluntary self-exclusion for a defined period (minimum 6 months) or permanently. During self-exclusion, your account will be fully suspended — no deposits, no play, and no promotional communications. Permanent self-exclusion cannot be reversed. Contact[email protected] to request this.
Set a maximum loss threshold for a defined period. Once your net losses in that period reach the set amount, further wagers will be declined for the remainder of the period. This tool is particularly useful for players who want to cap their exposure during a single session or week.
Enable periodic pop-up notifications during your gaming session that display your session time, net result, and a reminder of your set limits. These prompts are designed to help maintain perspective, especially during longer sessions — a simple but effective way to stay grounded.
